Karen Morrow, B.A. Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree – 1987

The Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree Program at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) helped train Ms. Karen Morrow for a career as a paralegal. Ms. Morrow was employed full-time when she attended UIS to earn her Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree in 1987. As a part-time student, Ms. Morrow chose the Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree Program because it had “a great reputation and dedicated professors who were willing to work with part-time students who were employed full-time.” She wanted to learn as much as possible about the law since she had intended on going to law school after she earned her Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree.

Ms. Morrow now works as a Medical Paralegal (Medical Liability Specialist). After earning her Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree, Ms. Morrow decided she enjoyed paralegal work and elected not to go to law school.  The Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree Program at UIS expanded her ability to analyze cases and organize information effectively.  Her professional transition from the medical field into the legal field was enhanced by her participation in the Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree Program.

Ms. Morrow encourages other students to pursue a Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree because it “affords you the ability to work in a variety of employment positions even if you elect to not work in a law firm.” She advises students to stick with the Legal Studies Bachelor’s Degree Program. Professors work the students hard in preparation for students to succeed in any project they engage in.
