Chapin Award Application Instructions

Application process

Applicants must be History graduate students or advanced undergraduate History majors with an ambitious project that will require traveling for research with primary source material. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.

Complete applications should include:

  1. A current curriculum vitae
  2. A project description, including what benefit the applicant expects to derive from the award. Applicants should also ideally have obtained permission from the archives and/or libraries they wish to visit in order to work there during the period covered by the award.
  3. A detailed budget
  4. An official transcript
  5. Two confidential letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the committee.

The materials can be sent by regular mail or be submitted to the History department office (UHB 3050). Any questions should be directed to Dr. David Bertaina.

Applications will be reviewed by a faculty committee consisting of at least one specialist in American history and one specialist in non-American history
