Dr. Atul Agarwal is a business Professor of Operations Management in the Department of Management, Marketing, and Operations (MMO) at UIS. He teaches Operations Management and MIS related courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
He obtained a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, India followed by an MBA and a Ph.D. in Business Administration. Before joining UIS, he was on the faculty at the General Motors Engineering & Management Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, MI for 13 years where he also served as the Director of the MS in Lean Operations Management program for GM and Delphi corporations. He has interacted closely with Fortune 500 Corporations by conducting training workshops and on helping on projects targeted specifically to solve complex industry problems.
Professor Agarwal’s research interests include lean practices for process improvements in service and manufacturing sectors, modeling for supply chain networks, quality control systems for health care organizations, DEA modeling for service industries, and cross-culture business communication. His research has been published in various professional journals including the International Journal of Operations & Production Management, the International Journal of Naval Research Logistics, the International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Computers & Industrial Engineering and other leading journals. He has made numerous research presentations at the national and international conferences.
