The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team continues GLVC play with a home game against Truman State on Friday night at 5:00 p.m., before traveling to Quincy on Sunday for a 12:00 p.m. game.
UIS (1-1-2, 1-0 GLVC)
The Prairie Stars concluded their non-conference play with a competitive match against Ohio Dominican, finishing in a 1-1 draw. Despite ODU taking the lead with a headed goal from a corner kick in the 30th minute, UIS rallied in the second half, dominating with 18 shots. Freshman Kalli Drexler equalized in the 64th minute, scoring her first collegiate goal from another corner delivered by Brooke Biffar. Although Drexler had a potential second goal ruled out for a handball shortly after, UIS outshot ODU 24-12 overall, with a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Transitioning into GLVC play, UIS faced William Jewell and secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory. Abby Dellamorte opened the scoring early with a goal from a long throw-in by Abbie Gleason. The Stars maintained pressure, and in the 73rd minute, Maggie Joos added a second goal, assisted by Biffar and Drexler. The UIS defense, anchored by Allison Mirimanian, held strong to preserve the shutout, earning her GLVC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third time. This victory marked a significant milestone for head coach Scott Myers as it was his first win with the team.
Truman State (1-1-2, 0-0-1 GLVC)
The Bulldogs hosted two home games last weekend, one against non-conference opponent Missouri Southern and the other against GLVC foe Indianapolis. In both games, the Truman defense and goalkeeper were able to keep a clean sheet as the contests finished 0-0. Against Missouri Southern, TSU held a slight advantage in overall shots, 12-10, but both squads fired off 7 shots on goal. In the GLVC opener between UIndy and Truman State, UIndy had a slight edge in total shots, finishing with 9 compared to Truman's 7. However, both teams were evenly matched in shots on goal, each recording 3. TSU's only goals scored on the year came in the second half of a 4-1 win against Saginaw Valley.
UIS vs. Truman State History
Historically, the Prairie Stars have faced challenges against Truman State, holding a 1-8-1 record in their matchups. In 2023, UIS struggled despite dominating play, ultimately falling 1-0 to the Bulldogs. Their only victory against Truman State came in 2022, when they secured a 1-0 win in Kirksville.
Quincy (1-3, 1-0 GLVC)
The Quincy Hawks also finished their non-conference schedule last Friday, playing Fayette, Iowa against Bemidji State. QU was able to take a lead in the first half through Daniella Segall in the 34th minute. BSU started the second half with new energy, starting to test the QU defense and goalkeeper. In the 75th minute the Beavers were able to finally equalize. Only two minutes later, the BUS was awarded a penalty kick which was scored. BSU held on for the remainder of the match for the 2-1 win, holding an overall advantage in shots on goal, 22-12, and shots on goal, 10-5.
Sunday afternoon the Hawks began GLVC play against Lewis looking for their first win of the season. QU was able to take the lead in the 16th minute through Ella Wolfard with the assist coming from a left-footed cross by Reegan Haas. The Flyers were able to tie the game up in the 35th minute. Going into the second half knotted at 1 goal apiece, both teams were looking to push for the win. Quincy took the lead back in the 50th minute from an Abby Nelson strike. The Hawks pushed their lead to 3-1 in the 64th minute as Daniella Segall unleashed a strike into the top corner from outside the box. QU was able to hold onto their lead for the 3-1 win, their first win of the season. Quincy's goalkeeper, Julia Mincher, had a career day with 12 saves. LU outshot QU 24-10, with a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal.
UIS vs. Quincy History
The Prairie Stars and Hawks have had some tight battles over the years, as UIS holds a 4-11-1 historical record. UIS has been able to win the last three contests, with 2023's scoreline being 7-1 in favor of the Stars. QU's last win against UIS came in the spring 2021 season.
