The UIS women's indoor track and field team has been ranked 11th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) preseason poll released on Wednesday.
Lewis topped the poll with 194 points and 12 first-place votes, followed by Indianapolis with 167 points and two first-place votes. Southwest Baptist claimed the third spot with 158 points and one first-place vote, while Lincoln and Maryville tied for fourth with 142 and 139 points, respectively.
UIS received 70 points in the preseason voting for the GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Last year, the Prairie Stars finished ninth out of thirteen scoring teams at the championship, accumulating a total of 15 points from only distance events. UIS earned four points earned in the distance medley relay (DMR), six points in the 800 meters, and two points each in the mile and 3000 meters, alongside one point in the 5000 meters.
The indoor track season is set to begin at the start of the spring semester. UIS will rely on its strong core of upperclassmen to secure points at the championship, while also looking to a talented group of newcomers who could make a significant impact.
Junior Madelyn Miller is targeting All-GLVC honors in track and field after proving herself as a reliable scorer for the Prairie Stars. Her performance at last year's cross country championship, where she earned All-GLVC recognition, highlights her capability to compete at a high level within the league.
