The UIS women's basketball team will close out its three-game homestand this Thursday, taking on Indianapolis at 5:30 p.m. at TRAC.
Illinois Springfield (5-18, 4-11 GLVC)
The Prairie Stars are looking to bounce back after a tough weekend, falling 77-70 to McKendree and 81-68 to Maryville. Against McKendree, UIS built a commanding 38-21 halftime lead with a .693 shooting performance in the second quarter. However, McKendree stormed back with a 31-point third quarter, holding UIS to just eight points. Despite a strong effort in the fourth, UIS was unable to reclaim the lead. Emari Doby led the Stars with 19 points, followed by Niyah Udoiwod (18) and Kayla Rice (17).
Against Maryville, UIS trailed by just four points at halftime before a dominant third quarter put them ahead 53-48. The Saints, however, responded with a 33-15 fourth-quarter surge to secure the win. Kayla Rice led UIS with 15 points, while Diavian Mehundrew added 13.
UIS is seeking its fifth GLVC win, averaging 62.3 points per game with a 40.7% field goal percentage and 30.4% three-point shooting. Kayla Rice continues to lead the offense, averaging 16.9 points per game while ranking 34th in NCAA DII for total points. She also ranks among the nation's best in steals (No. 7), steals per game (No. 11), and three-pointers made (No. 9). Allysia McDaniel has been a force on the boards, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game across 21 starts.
Indianapolis (9-14, 6-9 GLVC)
The Greyhounds enter Thursday's game following back-to-back losses. UIndy fell 77-58 to Maryville, despite three players scoring in double figures—Amyrah Sapenter, Patricia Chikamba, and Jaelynn Murray. Maryville controlled the game early, forcing turnovers and outshooting the Hounds to secure the win.
On Senior Day, UIndy dropped a 66-63 contest to Missouri-St. Louis in a back-and-forth battle. The Greyhounds built a 29-19 first-quarter lead but were shut out in the second quarter (12-0 UMSL). The teams traded momentum in the second half, but UMSL edged out the win.
UIS previously defeated Indianapolis 67-58 on Jan. 5, led by Kayla Rice's 20 points and Allysia McDaniel's 14 rebounds.
GLVC Point Rating System (PRS)
The GLVC uses the Point Rating System (PRS) to determine postseason seeding, rewarding teams for wins against stronger conference opponents while assigning lower values for wins against weaker competition. Points are also distributed for losses, with more points awarded for a loss against stronger competition versus if the team lost at home or on the road to a struggling team.
With the regular season winding down, Lewis (4.46) leads the standings, followed closely by Quincy (4.21) and Drury (4.20). The top spots are tightly contested, with Upper Iowa holding the eighth spot at 3.13 PRS, just ahead of Truman State (3.11).
UIS currently sits 12th at 2.50 PRS, while Indianapolis is 10th at 2.73 PRS as both teams look to climb in the rankings.
