Theatre Artist Scholarships

A limited number of $1,000-$2,000 awards to students planning to major in Theatre

Students must commit to attending University of Illinois Springfield as new first year students by early to mid-May of the year in which they will begin as enrolled students at UIS.

Renewable for up to four years, for each student who maintains a 3.0 GPA cumulative or better while at UIS, continues to progress as a full-time student and Theatre major at UIS and continues to work successfully—according to UIS Theatre faculty—on at least one mainstage UIS Theatre production (either backstage or onstage) every semester while a student at UIS.

May be combined with Lincoln Merit Scholarships or Honors Scholarships at UIS.

Eligible students must have a minimum 21-23 ACT/1060-1150 SAT, high school 3.0 GPA and have had a successful audition/portfolio/interview as determined by UIS Theatre faculty members.

Those interested in applying for one of the Theatre Artist Scholarships must contact a UIS Theatre faculty member to arrange an audition/portfolio/interview appointment.

John Takeuchi Award

The UIS Theatre Department is pleased to again offer the John Takeuchi Scholarship. This is a $500 merit scholarship. Mr. John Takeuchi, one of the original architects hired in 1970 to create the first footprint of the then Sangamon State University, donated this scholarship for UIS Theatre.

John Takeuchi Award Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled in a UIS Theatre course (currently, or within the past academic year) or have worked on at least one UIS Theatre production within the past academic year.
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time at UIS.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Recipient must work on a UIS Theatre production (either backstage or on stage) within one year of receiving this award.
