Deborah Anthony, J.D., Professor of Legal Studies, was quoted in an State Journal-Register article, “Sangamon County Jail inmate’s death leaves questions, mother at protest wants answers”
‘Anthony said the ruling of death by restraint asphyxia “raises questions and seems troubling. With somebody who is already in custody, (who) presumably does not pose a danger to the officers themselves, we want to make sure they’re employing techniques that have a minimal risk of causing harm. We’ve seen other stories of similar cases where people have ended up dying from restraint asphyxia, so it seems like a troubling issue.”’
