About Us
Here at UIS, the beginnings of the School of Health Sciences (HSC) grew out of the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) degree which began over 40 years. Until recently, CLS was the only allied health professional program at UIS but in the 2016/2017 academic year the Exercise Science baccalaureate degree began and has grown significantly ever since. Expansion to the ALH Department happened again in the 2018/2019 academic year with the addition of a Master of Athletic Training Program that accepted the first class of students in the Summer 2019 Semester.
In the Fall 2019 semester the growth, expansion, and updating ALH Department has continued to grow, expand, and modernize with the name change of Clinical Laboratory Science to Medical Laboratory Science (MLS). The name change of CLS to MLS aligns the program with the contemporary terminology utilized in the profession and is the precursor to a major curricular revision that will be in place for the Fall 2020 semester.
Continuing to review, revise, and modernize each of the ALH programs allows us to stay in tune with the ever changing world of healthcare and provide our students with the current best practices of today’s professional practice in healthcare. Stay tuned for more information on the changes coming up in the Department of Allied Health!
