The University of Illinois Springfield has seen a 30 percent increase in the number of students taking online winter accelerated courses. The courses started on Dec. 13 and last five weeks.

A total of 331 students are enrolled in winter accelerated courses in 2021, up from 254 students in 2020.

All of the 19 courses being offered are taught by full-time UIS faculty members. Accelerated courses provide students a unique opportunity to reach their educational goals faster.

“UIS is excited to offer accelerated courses that run between the fall and spring semesters. This opportunity allows students to move forward toward degree completion and employment opportunities on an accelerated pathway,” said Vickie Cook, UIS acting associate provost for enrollment management.

Winter accelerated courses are being offered in biology, criminology and criminal justice, communication, computer science, economics, history, legal studies, management information systems, political science, psychology, public administration, sociology/anthropology and women and gender studies.
