The Counseling Center provides mental health services to the UIS campus.
All UIS students who have been assessed the Health and Counseling fee are eligible for counseling services at no additional charge. Counseling sessions are offered in person and telehealth. To make an appointment, call (217) 206-7122. Read more about the Center.
Exclusively online students have not paid the fee and will be charged the equivalent of the Health and Counseling Fee for each semester that they receive counseling services.
All students must currently reside in Illinois to receive counseling services.
Consultation, Workshops, and Trainings.
For those interested in any mental health workshops or trainings, please reach out to the Counseling Center by email, counseling@uis.edu or call 217-206-7122. We offer trainings and workshops on a variety of topics, including supporting students with mental health challenges, suicide education and response, trauma informed spaces, mindfulness, stress reduction, time management, alcohol and drug education, healthy relationships, coping skills, social skills trainings, and conflict resolution. Looking for information on a certain topic but don't see it listed, just ask and we will work to accommodate your request.
Online Self-Directed Resources
Togetherall- is an online peer support platform. All UIS students have access to this platform by signing in with your UIS email.
Mindwise- is an online mental health screening tool. Answer a few questions to receive feedback on your functioning and resources for services.

Patient Portal
The online Patient Portal allows students to complete required Counseling forms, send secure messages, and schedule appointments with their counselor. Secure messages are only reviewed during business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).

Concerns about someone’s safety
If you become aware of a student that has threatened or attempted suicide, engaged in efforts to prepare to commit suicide or expressed a preoccupation with suicide, immediately call the UIS Campus Police at 217-206-6690 or the Counseling Center at (217) 206-7122.
