Summer is a time to relax, have fun, and it is also a time for learning math! During this summer, in addition to our usual summer (online) courses, MAT offers several exciting learning opportunities:
- Elizabeth Thing and Jennifer Grebner are teaming with the Summer Scholars Program to offer online MAT 092 Arithmetic Review and MAT 094 Beginning Algebra. The Summer Scholars Program started in late June and will continue until early August.
- Carol Saltsgaver is working with the UIS Smart Start Summer Program to offer MAT 121 Applied Statistics. This is the launch summer for this new endeavor. The Smart Start Summer Program is very unique. In addition to classroom instruction, there are enrichment opportunities on the UIS campus in which students can explore campus life. There are also coaching sections at the Career Development Center and Admissions, guiding and helping students to prepare for their career and college application process. This program is free and open to District 186 Rising Seniors who are members of historically underrepresented groups.
- Hei-Chi Chan teamed up with Continuing and Professional Education (CAPE) and offered two camps: Math Challenge: Cool math for middle school students (June 20-21) and Relativity for Gifted Learners (for high school students) (June 27-29). Both camps were a blast! Be sure to watch out for the announcement for next year's camp!
