Colin Kerr is earning his University of Illinois Springfield master’s degree online, while working as a federal relations specialist for the University of Illinois System in Washington, D.C. While finishing his UIS undergraduate degree, he interned in U.S. Senator Dick Durbin’s Springfield office. He then had the opportunity to transfer to Durbin’s Washington, D.C office. While working for Durbin, Kerr held various responsibilities as a member of the economic policy team. “My day-to-day responsibilities included legislative research, hearing and briefing memorandums, policy projects and assignments related to the Senator's Whip office,” he said.
Kerr credits UIS for helping him get to where he is today, saying “(UIS) provided the skills and knowledge necessary for me to earn a degree and secure a great job in my field. I will look back on my choice to attend UIS throughout my career and know it was one of the best decisions I've made.”
Leadership is lived at UIS. Every Day.
