The NIST Computer Security Division has developed a workshop to help the small business owner increase information system security.
- Learn how to define Information Security (IS) for your organization.
- Hear examples of common types of threats and understand how to determine the extent to which your organization should proactively address threats.
- Learn common Best Practices and Procedures to operate more securely.
- Hear a basic explanation of current technologies used in reducing IS vulnerabilities
- Learn about resources freely available to your organization.

8:15 AM | Making the Right Investment Learn how to define information security (IS) for your organization and demonstrate the necessity of IS in your operations. Hear examples of the most common types of threats to information security and understand how to do a cost-benefits analysis to determine the extent to which your organization should proactively address known threats. |
9:00 AM | Defining Your Information Security Needs Learn to create a security policy that supports your organization’s mission. Understand the fundamentals of risk assessment and risk mitigation. |

10:00 AM | Common Information Security Practices Internet, E-mail, Desktop, Personnel - Learn common Best Practices. Focus on procedures to operate more securely. |
11:00 AM | Mechanisms and Technologies of Information Security Hear an overview of current technologies used in reducing IS vulnerabilities and learn of NIST (and other) resources available to your organization. Note: At the end of our program we will have a short briefing by theFBI Cyber Security SA on local/national issues of note. |
