Dear Faculty and Staff —

The “call” for faculty position requests for employment to begin fall of 2024 has been issued to deans and chairs. Requests for such positions to be searched in the 2023-24 year are due in this office (via the usual template from Monica Kroft) on or before April 18. After consultation with the respective deans and others, I will make individual recommendations to the Chancellor late April so search chairs and committees can be constituted. The earlier timing of this approval process will enable UIS to be more competitive with offers to preferred candidates, hopefully by end of Fall 2023 semester.

Work has concluded on tenure and promotion reviews with letters of recommendation being forwarded to involved parties, including my recommendations to the Chancellor.

Also, I am asking you to review the University Code of Conduct and pay special attention to the expectation that colleagues treat others with civility and decency. This week I was made aware of situations involving two of our colleagues that were unprofessional. We can do better in our relationships with others, especially those with whom we interact daily.

Finally, meetings continue to be held on various issues: statewide provost’s meeting, budget meetings, the Chancellor’s cabinet, the Chairs’ Forum, the Strategic Staffing Committee, with Union Officers, and the Campus Senate. Additionally, candidates for the vice chancellors for Student Affairs and Finance & Administration were interviewed. In the Senate meeting on Friday, the Student Government Association provided an updated report, the Director of Athletics gave a solid report on athletics at UIS, and the first reading of learning outcomes for general education and revisions to the current Global Studies program were discussed as well as several items for the Senate meeting on April 7.

This is a very busy time of the semester where scheduling time and individual availability become more complex. It is also the time period where we celebrate many of our students and colleague achievements. Attend what is possible and work toward the many positive aspects of this University – our recent accomplishments and hopes for the future.

Thank you,

Linda
