The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present “Under the Umbrella,” a group exhibition featuring works by graduating seniors from the UIS Visual Arts Department.
The exhibition opens on Monday, April 24, and will run through Thursday, May 11, in the UIS Visual Arts Gallery, located in the Health and Sciences Building, room 201 (HSB 201). Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
A reception will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the UIS Visual Arts Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
“Under the Umbrella” features a variety of media including photography, digital design, painting, installation and mixed-media sculpture. Each artist developed a unique body of work, exploring themes that address identity, nostalgia, fantasy, social justice and mental health. These exhibited works illustrate the personalities of each artist, demonstrating the differences and similarities between the individuals - all shared under the umbrella of this group exhibition.
The artists relate their work to the viewers’ experiences, whether personal, societal, perceptual or emotional. Exhibiting artists include DT Derrickson, Maddie Edmondson, Taylor McClure, Tina Pierson, Jae Michel Scott and Kaylee Winterbottom.
This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency. For more information and future exhibitions, please visit the UIS Visual Arts Gallery website at uis.edu/visual-arts/visual-arts-gallery.
