Annual Evaluations - Reminder and Trainings
This is a friendly reminder that annual evaluations for Civil Service and Academic Professional employees must be submitted to Human Resources by Friday, June 2, 2023. We are using an updated electronic version of the Annual Performance Evaluation form. More information on the annual evaluation process, including best practices and frequently asked questions, can be found on the Human Resources website.
Human Resources provided two training sessions on annual evaluations in April. The first one was held on April 14th and covered how to use the new electronic form. If you missed it, a Zoom recording of that session.
The second session trained supervisors on best practices for completing annual evaluations and was held on April 26th. If you are a supervisor for Civil Service or Academic Professional employees and you missed this training, we will be offering this session again:
Supervisory Training: Annual Evaluation training for supervisors.

On-Campus Events Reminder
With the end of the semester near, we’d like to take a moment and remind everyone of UIS’ commitment to protecting minors that are taking part in university activities. If you are hosting an event that includes minors, make sure to submit an event form to Jé Greer (jgree6@uis.edu) in HR, along with a complete list of your volunteers, at least 30 days prior to the event.
We encourage anyone who plans on hosting an event with minors as participants to familiarize themselves with this 5-minute video, Protection of Minors on Campus, covering the basics of Protection of Minors procedures and ANCRA reporting.
Supervisor Development Series: Leaves (University, State and Federal)
We are pleased to announce the next session in our Supervisor Development Series: Leaves (university, state and federal). Supervisors will complete this session with a better understanding of their responsibilities, how to identify leave situations, and comprehensive knowledge of the leave process. UIS HR has invited Denise Swenson to facilitate this session. Denise and her staff process leaves for the UI System staff and have been assisting UIS for the past 2 years with the processing of leaves as well as providing leave training. Leaves are not something that most of us deal with on a regular basis, and we encourage all supervisors to try and attend this session. If you are a Dean/Director/Division Head, we ask that you please encourage supervisory staff that report to you to try and attend.
This 120-minute interactive webinar will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 9:00am to 11:00am. Registration is available in Ability LMS. We hope you will consider participating in this valuable webinar. Questions may be directed to erhr@uillinois.edu.
Alternate and Flexible Work Schedules
UIS will again be offering alternate and flexible work schedule options, subject to the operating needs of the unit. Employees may be eligible to participate in an alternate or flexible work schedule, operations permitting, in accordance with applicable policies, rules, and collective bargaining agreements. The alternate or flexible work schedules during Summer 2023 have a window which begins no earlier than Sunday, May 14, 2023 and ends no later than Saturday, August 26, 2023.
Employees seeking to use an alternate or flexible schedule must submit a request form through supervisory channels. Completed request forms must be received in HR prior to the beginning of the effective pay period. Flexible/alternate schedules can be used in addition to remote work schedules and are offered at the discretion of the supervisor. Division Head approval is optional; please check with your Division Head to determine whether their approval is necessary.
The forms are available on the HR website:
Gift Days and Holidays
On April 26th, President Killeen announced that we will again receive three paid gift days during the month of December. A gift day is a paid day (use of benefit time is not required) provided to leave benefit eligible employees. Essential employees who must work on a designated gift day may use their gift day at a later time in the current fiscal year, with supervisor approval. Unused gift days are not paid out at the time of termination and do not roll over into the next fiscal year.
