The Evelyn Zimmerman Scholarship program made possible through a generous $18,000 gift from the estate of Evelyn Zimmerman, is designed to support and honor students who are dedicated to the field of Public Health. Mrs. Evelyn Zimmerman's philanthropic legacy has a strong connection to the spirit of nursing in outreach, and her vision for supporting education in Public Health is at the heart of these scholarships. Her gift has created an immense opportunity for students in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at UIS. These merit-based scholarships are available to students in both the general MPH and MPH-EH (Environmental Health) programs. Awardees were chosen based on their academic excellence and their demonstrated experience in, or a strong desire to work in, the delivery of direct public health programs.
Tara Bealor: Tara expressed her gratitude, stating, “The Zimmerman Scholarship has been instrumental in advancing my academic pursuit at the UIS, providing critical financial support for my Master of Public Health program. Danielle Dennis: Danielle remarked, "It is an honor to be chosen for such a prestigious scholarship highlighting my accomplishments and dedication to the public health field. This scholarship is allowing me to follow my dream of becoming an infectious disease epidemiologist while not worrying about the significant cost of graduate education. I am grateful for the dedication of the faculty within the Public Health program for making it such a wonderful environment for all the students to excel."
Oluwaseun Adeleke: In Oluwaseun’s enthusiastic words, “Receiving the Zimmerman’s scholarship has been a transformative experience in my MPH journey, providing the financial support and encouragement I needed to pursue my academic and career aspirations. This has empowered my work in the community as a public health advocate which is dedicated to addressing health disparities by providing preventive and promotive health services to underserved populations”.
Joshua Egbedimame: Joshua, in sharing his experience, stated, “I'm deeply honored to be a recipient of the Evelyn Zimmerman Scholarship Award in Public Health at UIS. The career leverage and financial support from this award inspired my scholarly contributions to public health through personal and collaborative academic writings featured in the official publications of the Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA) and the Illinois Environmental Health Association (IEHA). The ripple effect is my recent recognition by IPHA as recipient of the prestigious 2023 Emerging Public Health Leader Award. The scholarship motivates me to be a well-equipped and proficient public health professional, dedicated to serving my community and the world.”
