Curriculum Committee

Contact: chstcurriculum@uis.edu.  You may also contact the CCC chair or the CHST Dean's office with questions.

The CHST Curriculum Committee (CCC) provides guidance to CHST faculty on curriculum matters. The CCC reviews and approves proposals to add, delete, or change courses in the college curriculum; reviews and approves new or changes to existing academic programs; oversees IBHE academic program reviews. For General Education/ECCE courses, the Committee makes recommendations to the General Education Council or University Requirements Council. The Committee's responsibilities are specified in the CCC By-Laws, the CHST College By-Laws, with procedures informed by the UIS Levels of Governance Chart, UIS Campus Senate resolutions, and the University of Illinois Statutes. Throughout its deliberations, the Committee respects faculty autonomy in curriculum decisions and upholds academic freedom within CHST.

The Committee consists of five voting members elected at-large for staggered three-year terms, with one representative from each unit. The CHST Associate Dean (or designee) serves as a non-voting ex officio member.

Frequently asked questions about New Program Proposals.

Q: What if I don’t know all the readings and course assignments yet?

A: The course schedule, readings, and assignment descriptions help the Committee assess the course’s rigor and level (e.g., 1XX, 2XX). If exact details are not finalized, please provide typical examples of readings and assignments expected for a course at this level in your program. The Committee evaluates rigor by considering the number and type of assignments, course objectives, expected outcomes, and the amount of reading and writing required.

Q: What additional information should I include to address the purpose and rationale questions?

A: Include how the course contributes to the department/unit’s academic programs. Indicate whether it will be an elective, core, or capstone course, and explain any similarities or differences with other courses on campus. Provide estimates on expected enrollment and frequency of offering.
