Anh Nguyen leads the The Research Society and Women in STEM Excel. She serves as a general chemistry supplemental instruction leader and a science peer tutor at The Learning Hub. Nguyen worked with Assistant Professor Natalia Zinkevich on a research project using special human cells called HEK-293T that can glow green under certain lights, making them easier to study. She compared two different ways to count how many cells are in a sample: one using a dye that makes the cells show up better under a microscope, and one without using the dye. This research helps scientists understand which method is better for studying cells. Nguyen chose UIS because of the beautiful campus and the opportunities to connect with peers and faculty members. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school or participate in a clinical research project.
