Getting to Know You ➡ Guadalupe Trejo
Guadalupe Trejo is an office administrator for the vice chancellor of academic affairs.
Can you give me a brief timeline of how your career led you to UIS?
I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from Illinois College in 2022, where I double-majored in economics and international studies with a minor in pre-law and Spanish. In my previous position, I worked with Camelot Care Centers as a child welfare specialist with DCFS. I was looking to shift my career toward academic affairs and found an opportunity at UIS. I’m happy to be part of the UIS team!
What do you love most about your work?
I love getting the opportunity to work with faculty and support their needs. One of my favorite parts of my job is planning events, where I can finally put faces to names! While emails are helpful, nothing beats meeting people in person. My position allows me to expand my knowledge in administration and participate in wellness training. There’s always something new to learn!
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family in Chicago and at home with my three rescue cats and my fiancée. My cats, Simon, Toby and Luna, love quiet mornings, watching the birds out the window, and making funny noises. Sometimes, they join me outside to take naps in the sun while I tend to my houseplants.
Where are people most likely to find you when not at work?
You’re likely to find me at the Old Capitol Farmers Market, a used bookstore, or Washington Park. I would consider myself a foodie and a lover of books! The farmers market is a sweet-tooth haven and a great spot to try new foods from different vendors across the city. Washington Park is perfect for walks, and it’s a great spot to visit the turtles, ducks and geese. And of course, you can't leave without stopping by Park n Chill for the Dole Whip flavor of the week—pineapple is the best!
