Building Service Foreman John "Jack" Stege has been named the 2024 Employee of the Year at the University of Illinois Springfield. He was honored during a reception on Jan. 30, 2025, in the UIS Student Union.
Before announcing the winner, UIS Chancellor Janet Gooch thanked the eleven Employees of the Month who were nominated for the award.
Stege, who was the April 2024 Employee of the Month, is very enthusiastic about doing a great job.
“He takes a lot of pride in his work and truly cares about the people he serves. He continually asks employees and staff what he can do to help in any way to improve the area and is always willing to do more,” said Pattie Meyer, his supervisor.
According to Meyer, Stege is known for his work ethic and dependability.
“Jack consistently volunteers to help other staff members, faculty and students, making them his first priority. He is always available to help and encourage others to have a good work ethic, reminding his peers how important their role is with students and staff,” Meyer said.
Stege’s nominator praised him for the energy he brings to the workplace.
“Jack goes above and beyond helping out the Financial Aid Office as well as all of the offices he maintains in UHB,” his nominator said. “He is friendly and willing to help us in any way he can!”
