Winter Weather Operations – Wednesday, Feb. 12

The Springfield area is forecasted to receive 2 to 4 inches of snow on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Due to the likely winter weather conditions, below is an update regarding campus operations.

Information for Students

UIS does not anticipate canceling classes; however, if that decision changes, you will be notified via email and a message on the UIS homepage. As the UIS Inclement Weather Policy states, if classes are not canceled and a student believes that travel will be dangerous, the student should make the appropriate personal decision and notify their instructor of a planned absence from class. Instructors are advised to abide by each student’s judgment in such cases. The UIS campus does not close due to inclement weather except under the most extraordinary conditions.

Information for Employees

The Liberal Leave Policy will be in effect on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Employees are advised to use their discretion when determining whether it is safe to commute to and from work in inclement weather.

  • Remote Work: Employees who can perform their duties remotely may work from home with supervisory approval.
  • On-Site Work: Employees whose roles require on-site work and who are unable to commute due to weather conditions should use appropriate leave benefits.
  • Notification: Employees must notify their supervisor if they are unable to report to work. Normal leave reporting processes and requirements apply for weather-related absences.

Office Hours Adjustments

If your department adjusts its operating hours or in-person services due to weather, please complete the Office Hours Update Form (select the temporary disruption to operations box).  Changes will be posted on the Emergency Office Hours page. Only one designated person per office should submit changes. Please avoid sending mass emails to announce office hour changes.
