Construction Project Highlights

HSB 151 and 152

F&S Work Orders
Thank Your for Your Patience During Our Work Order System Migration
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their patience as the work order system migrated from MaxPanda to Eagle. Submitting Maintenance and Repair Requests
For routine maintenance and repairs, please submit your requests through our work order system. This process ensures that accurate details are provided to the technician performing the work and it allows you to receive updates as the status of your work order changes. Additionally, it helps us gather data to better understand and evaluate campus maintenance needs.
Reporting Emergency Incidents
If you need to report an emergency incident (a threat to life, health, or safety), call our main line at (217) 206-6530 so we can quickly dispatch the appropriate responder.

Winter Safety Tips
Footwear:
The single most important thing you can do for your safety is to wear weather-appropriate footwear. Boots with rubber soles and non-slip tread are great; grippers, traction cleats, or “Yaktrax” are another excellent idea. Nothing is foolproof, but the right footwear provides slip resistance. You will appreciate the difference!
Defensive Walking:
Just like being a “defensive driver” to avoid incidents, become a “defensive walker” to avoid winter slips, trips, and falls.
- Plan ahead to ensure sufficient time to reach your destination.
- Wear boots with non-slip tread.
- Use care getting in and out of your vehicle. Hold onto the door frame to steady yourself.
- Assume all wet and dark areas on pavement are slippery and icy.
- Walk in designated walkways. Avoid “off-sidewalk short-cuts” – which do not receive maintenance.
- Don’t text & walk at the same time.
- Use available handrails.
- Avoid carrying items in your arms that can cause you to be unbalanced.
Walk Like A Penguin:
- Walk flat-footed.
- Take short steps or shuffle for stability.
- Concentrate on maintaining your balance.
- Keep your head up and don’t lean forward.
- Shorten your stride and walk slowly to safely navigate an icy path.
- Point your feet out slightly to increase stability.
- Keep your arms at your sides (not in your pockets) to maintain balance.
- Do the penguin shuffle.
Grounds Updates
The Grounds department has several spring project plans under development due to the generosity of the Green Fee Committee. Designs will be created for:
- A garden comprised of native plants for the east - or legacy - campus. This garden will feature a sculpture designed by UIS art students.
- A rain garden for the space between the Student Life Building (SLB) and the WUIS building. This garden will help alleviate water collection and runoff issues.
- Native trees will be planted across campus to replace those we lost due to severe weather, infestations, and disease.
Stay tuned for more information as designs and plans for these projects move forward!
