"The Ride of Springfield" by the Gobbo/Stark Quartet

Jose Gobbo (guitar), Brian Stark (saxophone), Drew Cox (drum set), Andrew Binder (bass)

The Gobbo/Stark Quartet was born on I-72 during a weekly commute Jose and Brian shared between Champaign and Springfield. They had already developed an interactive, conversational style of improvising together through years of informal gigs at local clubs and bars. The idle hours and the open landscape of our beloved Illinois inspired the musicians to put together a real band, do some rehearsals and record an album. And so they did! "Ride of Springfield" was recorded in October and November of 2021, featuring Emma Taylor on Bass, Drew Cox on drums, Jose Gobbo on guitar and Brian Stark on saxophone. Brian and Jose each contributed four compositions, each with its own singular groove. 

Brian and Drew are instructors at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Jose has taught at UIS and Lincoln College. All members are top performers in the Central Illinois area and regularly perform in clubs, private events, orchestras, and educational clinics. "Ride of Springfield" was mixed and mastered by Grace Calderon with artwork by Kinsey Fitzgerald. It was released in March 2022.
