ENG 101 and 102 Assistance

The Hub’s embedded writing tutors assist ENG 101 and 102 by attending the class once a week and helping the instructor with in-class writing activities. One embedded tutor is assigned to each ENG 101 or 102 section.

Writing Web Series

The Learning Hub is proud to present a blog published and hosted by our very own writing staff – our Writing Web Series! Although now retired, we still have many posts from over the years of our newly updated handouts, videos on various topics and other great writing-related tips, tricks and tidbits!

Walk-In Writing Help

Students from all courses seeking writing assistance are encouraged to visit for one-on-one tutoring in The Student Union and Brookens Library. Days and times are subject to change each semester – stay up to date through Campus Announcements or our Workshops and Walk-Ins page!

Online Writing Workshop Series

Each semester, the writing center offers a variety of Online Workshops covering topics related to writing, critical thinking, and grammar/mechanics. Workshops are conducted through online meeting software, which means you can learn in the comfort of your own home. Sometimes these workshops even count as Extra Credit – check with your instructor to see if this is a viable option for you and your class!

Our workshop schedule can be viewed over on our Workshops and Walk-Ins page!

Registration is required for online workshops. To register, email The Hub with your name and the date and title of the workshop you wish to attend. Look in Campus Announcements for more information about our workshops.

Workshop Series Recordings

Please note that these recordings are from several semesters ago, and therefore some of them may not be accurate (especially our citation-related workshops). We are working on fully updating all of these into master recordings, but in the meantime please reach out via email to The Hub if you would like to learn about any of these topics in a one-on-one appointment - we are always happy to conduct workshops individually with students outside of our regular workshop series schedule.

Stay up to date through Campus Announcements about which workshops are forthcoming and see our Workshop page for more information!

Department Liaison Project

The Learning Hub assigns a writing staff member to departments wanting to participate in the Liaison Project. This project gives the department a contact person to coordinate specific requests. To contact your assigned Liaison, email thehub@uis.edu, or through their UIS email addresses, below. If you don’t see your department listed, please contact The Hub to see what we can do for you!
