Abby Vaughn of St. Charles, Missouri, a senior at Incarnate Word Academy, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2023 and awarded a $28,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over four years. At UIS, she will major in medical laboratory science and play on the women’s soccer team.

The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At Incarnate Word Academy, she is involved in the National Honors Society, Ambassadors and Philanthropy Club. She has played soccer all four years of high school.

“I chose UIS because I know the welcoming community will ease my transition from my small high school into college,” Vaughn said. “UIS also fulfills my desire to play college soccer at a competitive level. The team and coaching staff especially made me feel like I belonged during my official visit. Overall, UIS offers endless opportunities for success in both my academic and athletic careers!”

All undergraduate first-year students are automatically eligible for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. These scholarships are automatically applied upon admission and are based solely on high school GPA. In order to receive $28,000 over four years, the student must have an unweighted GPA of 3.80-3.99.
