Addelyne Nehmelman of Delavan, Illinois has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2024 and awarded a $12,000 Star Scholar Award for tuition over two years.

The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

Nehmelman will major in pre-nursing and compete on the UIS track and cross country teams. In high school, she was involved in track and field, cross country and scholastic bowl.

“Choosing UIS offers a direct path to a top nursing school, fulfilling my healthcare career ambitions,” she said. “Additionally, being on the track and cross country teams allows me to develop as a runner while honing essential life skills. This combination of academic excellence and personal growth opportunities makes UIS the ideal choice for me to excel both academically and athletically.”

Following graduation from the UIC College of Nursing Springfield Campus, located at UIS, Nehmelman plans to dedicate herself to two years of hospital work before applying to nurse anesthesia school. She hopes to become a full-time nurse anesthesiologist (CNRA) in central Illinois.

All undergraduate first-year students are automatically eligible for Star Scholar First Year Scholarships. To receive $12,000 over two years, the student must have an unweighted GPA of 3.75-3.99.
