What was your overall UIS experience like?

I cherished the campus and the chance to forge meaningful connections with fellow students. Being part of the social work club at UIS enriched my experience immensely as well.

Do you have any fond memories of your time at UIS you'd like to share?

Yes, my foundational classes in my bachelors of social work program taught me how to be an empathetic listener and be a valuable community citizen.

Why did you choose UIS?

I chose UIS due to its close proximity to Chicago so I can still be close to family and the close knit community.

What has your career path been like? How did you end up where you are?

My career journey has evolved from community advocacy to the department of psychiatry at SIU Med, where I’ve gained invaluable insights into client care and research.

How did your UIS education prepare you for your career?

UIS laid the groundwork for my career, fueling my passion for community involvement and instilling a client-focused mindset. I was able to use the foundation completed at UIS to complete my lifelong dream of becoming a Doctor. In December of 2021 I completed my Doctorate of Social Work degree at Tulane University.

What are some life lessons you'd like to share with current students?
