What was your overall UIS experience like?

My experience at UIS was incredible. The faculty were knowledgeable, helpful and had high standards for learning. I was teaching 4th grade during the time I was enrolled so I did not have a lot of time to participate in activities.

Do you have any fond memories of your time at UIS you'd like to share?

I really enjoyed working on my Research Project. Having faculty who have worked in education in the administrative role was essential in getting good advice on the project

Why did you choose UIS?

It was close to where I lived and had the reputation of being a good school for educational leadership. My parents earned their Masters Degrees at Sangamon State.

What has your career path been like? How did you end up where you are?

I was teaching 4th grade at South Fork Elementary School when I earned my Masters in Educational Leadership. One year later I was the Principal of St. Mary Elementary School in Taylorville where I was for 5 years. I became the Assistant Principal of St. Teresa High School in 2008 and the Principal in 2016. Next year I will be back in public school as the principal of Central A&M High School in Moweaqua, IL.

How did your UIS education prepare you for your career?

I learned so much at UIS to prepare me for my administrative career. All of the professors had experience working as adminstrators in education. They provided hands on knowledge to the students. Having gained this knowledge was very helpful in my career at both elementary and high school.

Do you have any cool hobbies/side projects you'd like to tell us about?

For 30 years I was a trombone player in a Carbondale, IL rock band that played all over the state. I play guitar and bass as well.
