Can you tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to pursue your current career path?
I've always been drawn to medicine. Growing up, I watched my mom care for so many patients, and I knew I wanted a career where I could make a difference. One moment that really stuck with me was when I was about eight—my brother had a bad accident and seriously injured his face. As my mom rushed us to the nearest trauma center, which was over an hour away, I sat in the backseat holding pressure on his wound. I remember her commenting on how calm I was through it all. Looking back, it’s pretty fitting that I ended up as an emergency physician!
Who or what has been your biggest influence or mentor in your journey?
My mother dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a nurse practitioner (DNP) and educator at the University of Wisconsin for many years, and she taught me the value of hard work and resilience—especially as I navigated challenges growing up in a rural town. Her influence still pushes me today, reminding me to keep growing, keep challenging myself, and never stay stagnant.
What are your goals and aspirations for the future?
I want to keep growing, learning, and advocating—not just for my future patients, but for my family too. My husband and I are expecting our first child this year, and more than anything, I hope to be a great mom!
What advice would you give to others who are looking to advance and make a difference in their field?
Embrace the process of becoming. Every career path comes with challenges, and there will be times when it feels like the odds are against you. But there’s always a way forward—it might not be easy, and it might take time, but don’t forget to pause and appreciate the small moments along the way. Your life is unfolding in front of you—enjoy it.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time that helps you stay inspired and motivated?
I love cooking! Trying new recipes always feels like a fun little challenge—will it turn out great or be a total flop? Am I timing the meat right with the sides? Did I add enough garlic (the answer is usually no)? Cooking helps me escape some of life's chaos and reminds me that, thankfully, life is pretty forgiving—just like my husband's taste buds!
