The Illinois Springfield men's track and field team will compete in the GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at the University of Indianapolis. The meet returns to the UIndy ARC after being held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in 2024.
UIS will feature a strong contingent of distance runners looking to make their mark across both days of the meet. Isaac Cortes and Brair Nevills will lead the charge in the 5,000 meters, where Cortes enters with the fourth-best time in the conference (14:33.66) and Nevills follows closely in 5th (14:37.33). The duo will also compete in the 3,000 meters, where Cortes holds the fourth-best time (8:26.08), with Nevills, Balin Doud, Noah Tegeler, and Brock Loftus also in the mix.
In the mile, Ryan Jones (8th, 4:14.58) and Cortes (10th, 4:15.63) are poised to challenge for top spots, while Doud (13th, 4:16.98) and Aidan Donohue (13th, 4:16.98) will look to break through. Jones is also ranked seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.75, and Balin Doud enters 13th in the 800 with a time of 1:56.01.
Matt Padilla (10th, 14:49.41) and Joey Karlesky (13th, 14:51.52) will also compete in the 5,000 meters, hoping to make an impact in the longest indoor distance event.
The Distance Medley Relay will see Doud, Donohue, Jones, and Martinez taking on the challenge for a shot at the championship.
