The Illinois Springfield men's track and field team heads to the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., one of the biggest weekends of competition during the regular season. Friday will feature mostly 5,000-meter heats, including invitational heats with tough time standards. Saturday will see UIS athletes in open heats of distance events, highlighted by the 3,000-meter run in the morning.
Entries
On Friday, UIS will have 19 runners in the 5k, nearly the entire roster. Freshmen DJ Dutton, Ayden Groves, and Lucas Naugle will make their collegiate debuts in the 600 meters.
On Saturday, 13 athletes will return to race the 3,000 meters. Last weekend's record-setting 4x400 meter relay team—Balin Doud, Ryan Jones, Aidan Donohue, and Isaac Cortes—will compete in the distance medley relay. The meet will also feature six runners in the mile and four in the 800 meters.
Weekend Recap
Balin Doud and Ryan Jones had impressive three-event outings on Friday, recording GLVC top-18 times in both the mile and 800 meters before running in the 4x400 relay. Isaac Cortes was the team's top miler, finishing third with a time of 4:15.63. Matt Padilla also earned a top-10 finish, taking 8th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:47.18. The men's indoor 4x400-meter relay team of Doud, Jones, Donohue, and Cortes set a new school record, finishing with a time of 3:31.47, which ranks 11th in the GLVC this season.
GLVC Standings
New additions to the GLVC season top-10 include Isaac Cortes and Balin Doud in 7th and 8th place in the mile. Freshman Dom Cantarini is just outside the top-10 with a time of 4:19.93.
