Our Star Alumni
Ms. Sneha Shenoy, originally from Bengaluru, India, is one of our star alumni.
Remembering her time at UIS
During her time at UIS, Ms. Shenoy valued experiential learning opportunities and some of the program's great courses. She recalls how much she enjoyed the late-evening classes, representing the College of Business and Management at the Society for Advancement of Management’s (SAM) National Business Case Study Competition, her time as a Graduate Assistant for the College of Business and Management, sitting by the campus koi pond along with her friends, and of course, the commencement ceremony that was brief due to the pandemic, but very memorable.
Where she is now
Ms. Shenoy is Product Manager at the world-class academic publisher Elsevier. She believes that her ability to obtain this position at a great ed-tech company like Elsevier is partially thanks to the wide range of courses offered by the MIS department, from work in class, such as case studies in Business Process Management and high-impact experiential projects.
UIS set her up to succeed
UIS offered Ms. Shenoy great opportunities to practice what she learned in the classroom and hone her managerial and leadership skills. Examples of these experiential opportunities include the SAM national case competition, working on a project with the Office of Engaged Learning on a mockup for a dashboard that could solve the issue of students having multiple log-ins in different sources, and working as a Graduate Assistant for the College in which she used tools such as Tableau to generate graphs that helped visualize data.
Careers in product management
Ms. Shenoy became increasingly interested in product management during her studies and experiential projects at UIS. Through these experiences, she found that the fundamental question of product management is, "How can I solve this problem for a consumer?" Ms. Shenoy recommends students believe in themselves and take up as many projects or internships as possible. She believes that product management can be seen as simple as asking, “How can I improve the working of XYZ software?” or “What feature would I change?” She recommends anybody interested in product management to talk to people, take notes, and make changes. You never know; it might create wonders.
Ms. Shenoy would like to thank all the faculty members at CBM. Special mention to Dr. Hasan Kartal, as she enjoyed the Business Process Management, and to Dr. Jorge Villegas, for being a great mentor.
