Construction Project Highlights
Facilities & Services recently wrapped up several renovation and revitalization projects, including Anatomage Teaching and Learning Labs, the UHB 2029 Computer Lab Renovation, and the Food Pantry Renovation and Relocation, just to name a few. A handful of completed projects are highlighted in the following sections.
We have several projects in planning for the upcoming summer and fall semesters. If you have a construction or renovation project on the horizon, reach out to us now to get the process moving forward. You can also visit our F&S Construction & Renovation webpage and download the construction project request form to get the ball rolling.
As always, feel free to contact us at (217) 206-6530 or at facilities@uis.edu to discuss your potential or existing project.
Anatomage Teaching and Laboratories
Extensive work was done to transform BSB 108 and HSB 110 into anatomage teaching and learning labs. F&S crews installed new ceiling grid and LED lighting, upgraded the HVAC systems, patched and painted walls, moved furniture and equipment, and cleaned the carpet. The photos below show the learning space revitalization made possible by the Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) initiative.
UHB 2029 Computer Lab
Originally constructed as a 24-seat Cisco networking lab, this space has been reconfigured and expanded to accommodate 46 students - almost double the original capacity! Outdated server racks were removed, and F&S electricians, in concert with ITS, ran new cabling and wiring to provide data and power to the new stations. Our move crew brought in and set up furniture and our BSWs stripped and waxed the floor. The before and after photos below illuminate the improvements. Kudos to ITS for initiating this effort and dedicating their time and expertise to this highly beneficial lab refresh!
Facility Transformations
This monumental collaborative effort recently wrapped up when the Food Pantry moved into its new space in HRB. This effort has centralized offices for student convenience and staff operations and ensured more efficient use of available space. Many thanks to all who worked to make these enhancements a reality! Visit the Facility Transformations at UIS webpage to see what has been done in the last few months.
Parking Operations
Did you get your parking hang tag yet? If not, visit the Parking Operations website to purchase one today! After you complete the purchase, contact us at (217) 206-8502 to schedule an appointment to pick it up. Scheduling an appointment ensures we will be in the office when you stop by. Please note that ticketing for non-display of a valid hang tag will begin Monday, February 5 at 6:00 pm.
Some helpful information to keep in mind when parking at UIS:
- PERKS reserved parking spaces are solely for use by the individual PERKS hang tag owner. Vehicles parked in a PERKS parking space without a valid hang tag for that reserved space will be ticketed and subject to tow.
- Parking Rules and Regulations are enforced around the clock, 24/7.
Contact us at parking@uis.edu or (217) 206-8502 if you have questions or want more information about parking options.
Cleaning Projects
Over the winter break, members of our building services team tackled several deep cleaning projects.
- Brookens Library - The carpet was shampooed in the main lobby and offices
- Health and Sciences Building - The first-floor hallway was stripped and waxed. The before and after photos are below.
- Performing Arts - The carpets were shampooed in the main and auditorium lobbies, and additional deep cleaning was performed in the auditorium.
- University Hall - The floor in room 2029 was stripped and waxed. See the before and after photos in the UHB 2029 Computer Lab project above.
We are scheduling more cleaning projects over the spring break and the summer months. Get your special cleaning project on our calendar by contacting Dustin Bringle at (217) 206-8185 or dbrin6@uis.edu(link sends email) or Patty Meyer at (217) 206-6053 or pmeye2@uis.edu(link sends email).
