3 Tips for Completing the FAFSA®
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA®, is the first step in determining what federal financial assistance is available to your family and should be completed ahead of each academic year. We use FAFSA® info to determine if you’re eligible for UIS scholarships, grants or aid.
3 Tips for Completing the FAFSA®
- Start the process by creating a student FSA ID. If a parent needs to report info on the FAFSA®, they should create their own FSA ID. Each person should always use their own ID to log in to avoid delays in financial aid processing. Create an ID: fsaid.ed.gov2
- The 2023-24 FAFSA® form launched Oct. 1, so start your FAFSA® now! Institutional financial aid can be limited, and completing your FAFSA® quickly can put you higher on the list. Start your form: fafsa.gov
- Add the UIS code—009333—in the School Selection section, even if you haven’t yet applied to UIS. This routes your info to our Financial Aid office once you apply and are admitted.
Students who are not eligible to complete the FAFSA® may be eligible to complete the Alternative Application. Please visit the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) Retention of Illinois Students & Equity (RISE) Act page for complete details.
