ITS will be replacing our campus firewalls and outside routers on August 13 starting at 11 p.m. This work will cause a network outage (including Internet and Wi-Fi) for the entire campus. We expect network connectivity to be restored by 2 a.m. or earlier.

The new firewalls are a critical piece of our campus infrastructure. The firewall, VPN, and outside router together act as a security guard for our network, monitoring incoming and outgoing traffic. They essentially decide what gets in and what stays out, protecting our devices from malicious or unwanted activity.

The new firewalls will significantly increase our bandwidth pipe to the Internet as well as provide enhanced security to better protect our network.

We appreciate your patience with the planned network outage. If you have any questions, please contact ITS Client Services at techsupport@uis.edu or call 217/206-6000.
