Gillian Harris of Hartsburg, a recent graduate of Hartsburg-Emden Jr-Sr High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2022 and awarded a $14,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over two years. At UIS, she will major in pre-nursing.

The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of two years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At Hartsburg-Emden Jr-Sr High School, she was a member of the Senior Beta Club.
Harris chose UIS “because of the location, the nursing program, the grounds are beautiful and it feels like home,” she said.

Following her two years of pre-nursing at UIS, she plans to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing’s Springfield Regional Campus to earn her bachelors of science in nursing (BSN). She plans to work as an RN for a few years to gain experience, then maybe transition into a travel RN or continue her education.

All undergraduate first year students are automatically eligible for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. These scholarships are automatically applied upon admission and are based solely on high school GPA. In order to receive $14,000 over two years, the student must have an unweighted GPA of 3.80-3.99.
