FY 2025 Holiday Schedule

The schedule of approved holidays for Fiscal Year 2025 is here! Leave benefit eligible employees will receive 11 Holidays and 3 Gift Days in FY 2025. The full list of University Holidays may be found on the Human Resources website.

After more than six years of extraordinary service to HR, Carlene Hindert has decided to work part-time to enjoy more time with family. To accommodate this change, HR is making modifications to the current Division Liaison assignments.

Event Reminder

End of Academic Year Party

The theme for the 2024 End of Academic Year Party will be Decades! We encourage you and your colleagues to embrace your favorite decade and join us to celebrate the end of another academic year at UIS. Costumes are permitted to add an extra flair to the celebration, and prizes will be given for best costumes! If dressing up isn’t your
style, come as you are for activities, good tunes, and even better food! This year’s event will be held on the Student Union Patio on May 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Don’t miss out on the fun and RSVP today!

We ask that those participating in the costume portion of the event please choose work-appropriate costumes. Offensive attire is prohibited.

May Session: Employee Development Series

We are excited to announce the next installment of our Employee Development Series: Building a Positive Workplace Through Customer Service Values. Right now, too many higher education institutions do not reflect positive and proactive workplace cultures and values. This has a direct impact on the customer service experience of our students, faculty, and staff as well as our broader community. This session will focus on how we can build better customer service experiences at UIS and will include presentations by the College of Health, Science and Technology Interim Dean ,Travis Bland, and the Customer Service Improvement Committee (CSIC) Chair, Anne-Marie Hanson, followed by activities led by the CSIC team.

Date and location: May 29, 2024, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Please RSVP.

Alternate and Flexible Work Schedules

UIS will again be offering alternate and flexible summer work schedule options, subject to the operating needs of the unit. Employees may be eligible to participate in an alternate or flexible work schedule, operations permitting, in accordance with the applicable policies, rules, and collective bargaining agreements. The alternate and flexible work schedules during Summer 2024 have a window which begins no earlier than Sunday, May 12, 2024, and ends no later than Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Employees seeking to use an alternate or flexible schedule must submit a request form through supervisory channels. Completed request forms must be recieved in HR prior to the beginning of the effective pay period. Alternate and flexible schedules can be used in addition to remote work agreements and are offered at the discretion of the supervisor. Division Head approval is optional. Please check with your Division Head to determine whether their approval is necessary. The request forms are available on the HR Forms & Links webpage.

Business and Finance Employee Orientation

University Outreach is excited to offer the Business & Finance Employee Orientation to all employees within the University of Illinois System. Specifically, the orientation caters to any business and finance employee new to the University or new to a business and finance role.

The orientation provides employees with a sense of the complexity of the operations in the system, the various roles and responsibilities of business and finance employees, and the support offered by the Office of the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and the Comptroller (CFO). Specifically, the orientation focuses on providing an overview of the units within the Office of the CFO (for example: University Payroll & Benefits, University Payables, and University Accounting & Financial Reporting, etc.) by:

Identifying the primary functions of the Office of the CFO and related units.
Reviewing the University of Illinois System’s components and overall reporting structure.
Providing information about business and finance training and development opportunities, and
Examining the business and finance resources on the new BusFin website.

The orientation is offered every other month, and currently registration can be found on the BusFin website.
