Notice to University Employees

During the fall semester, card reader locks will be installed at the two exterior tower entrances of the Public Affairs Center (PAC) building. This measure is being taken to enhance security during events held in Sangamon Auditorium and streamline ticket operations, but it could affect access points for those not attending the show.

Key details of this change are as follows:

  1. Enhanced Event Security: To prioritize safety and security at our events, on days when shows are held, designated PAC doors will be locked to restrict access approximately two hours prior to the start of the event.
  2. Restricted Access: During locked periods when weapons screening is utilized, entrance to the PAC building will be restricted to the entrance by tower 1 near the colonnade and the teardrop drive-up entrance.
  3. Faculty and Staff Access: When weapons screening is in place, faculty and staff will be required to use the designated entry points. When weapons screening is not in use, faculty and staff who have offices in the PAC building may request to have their campus ID cards activated to provide access to the PAC 2nd floor through tower 2 (near LRH) or tower 3 (near the teardrop), allowing them to use these entrances as usual.
  4. ID Card Activation: Faculty and staff who work in PAC and wish to have their ID cards activated should fill out a card reader access form, available from the UIS Police Department. The card reader access request form is available on the UIS Police website.

We understand that this change may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to enhance the safety of our community during events. Your support is vital to the successful implementation of these security measures.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the UIS Police Department. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Please note that pending actual installation of the card reader locks, the two exterior tower entrances may be "key-locked" for certain upcoming Sangamon Auditorium events.
