Hometown: Waukegan, Illinois
Major: Master's in Human Development Counseling
Future Plans: Counsel diverse populations
Jackie Guzman chose the University of Illinois Springfield because of the community. “I was able to find my home away from home and know the support I have has matched the one I receive from my loved ones,” she said. Guzman is a member of Gamma Phi Omega International Sorority Inc., a graduate assistant for the Hispanic/Latinx Outreach Initiative and is a peer mentor for the Necessary Steps Mentoring program. Guzman's favorite part of UIS is the campus scenery. “The walks here are always so pretty and give me a place to recharge and reflect,” she said. Following graduation, she plans to counsel a diverse population and return to school to obtain her doctorate in psychology with a concentration in Adlerian psychotherapy.
Leadership is lived at UIS. Every Day.
