Kiara Hobbs of Riverton, Illinois has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2024 and awarded a $28,000 Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship for tuition over four years. At UIS, she plans to major in criminology and criminal justice.

The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

In high school, Hobbs was involved in Key Club, band, choir, and student council.

“I chose UIS because it is affordable, has great staff, and it is close to home,” Hobbs said.

Following graduating from UIS, she intends to pursue a career in law enforcement by joining the police force and hopefully reach the FBI level.

Capital Scholars Honors Program scholarships are competitive and are based on high school GPA. The Honors Program is a selective undergraduate program combining high standards and emphasis on excellence with a small residential college model, enrolling only about 100 first-year students each year.
