Madison Vangunten, a human resources associate at the University of Illinois Springfield, has been named the Employee of the Month for October 2024. She was recognized for her expertise in HR systems, her dedication to the campus community and her positive and welcoming attitude.

“Madison provides excellent customer service and is highly knowledgeable on HR processes as well as policies and procedures,” said Melisa Hatch, her former supervisor. “She goes above and beyond to assist anyone on campus and in the department. She is incredibly kind and friendly and wants to make sure everyone feels welcome at UIS.”

Vangunten has been with UIS since June 2019 and has been praised for her ability to explain complex systems like Cornerstone and JD Expert in understandable terms to individuals who handle searches and hiring.

“Madison's helpfulness makes her a treasure of UIS,” said a nominator. “She can describe complex systems in layperson's terms that make sense and keep us moving.”

In addition to her regular responsibilities, Vangunten serves on the Professional Development Committee, which organized this year’s Development Days, and participates in search committees.

“She already has a very busy workload, but she is always willing to help when someone is having difficulties or is overwhelmed,” Hatch said.

Her dependability has also been noted. “If Madi is assigned a task, I can trust that she will accomplish it and it will be accurate and timely,” Hatch added.

The UIS Employee of the Month award recognizes staff members who have made significant contributions to the university.
