The UIS men's basketball team came up just short in a closely contested matchup against UMSL, falling 69-64 at TRAC on Saturday evening in their conference opener. The Prairie Stars move to 3-3 on the season with a 0-1 record in GLVC play, while the Tritons improve to 1-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

"I give UMSL a lot of credit; they have played a monster non-conference schedule and brought a lot of energy and focus," said Coach Brock. "They did a terrific job of getting to the paint and finishing at the rim. We will have to defend better than we did tonight if we want to win games in this league."

Game Summary

  • UIS jumped out to an early lead in the opening minutes, but UMSL quickly responded to stay within striking distance

  • The Tritons took their first lead of the game with 11:17 remaining in the first half, setting the stage for a back-and-forth battle. Both teams traded baskets for much of the half, with UMSL ultimately carrying a 32-30 advantage into the break

  • Early in the second half, UMSL capitalized on their momentum to build an 11-point lead within the first five minutes. However, the Prairie Stars showed resilience, repeatedly cutting the Tritons' lead to just four points in the latter stages of the game

  • Clutch free-throw shooting by UMSL near the end of the game secured the road win for the Tritons, 69-64

  • Max Kunnert was the game's leading scorer with 28 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field

  • Evan Altman, Jack Weber, and Nate Shockey all finished with 8 points. Altman led the Stars in rebounds with 7, while Shockey recorded 5 assists

  • UIS shot 25-for-54 (46.3%) from the field, 5-for-14 (35.7%) from three, and 9-for-22 (40.9%) from the free-throw line

  • UMSL shot 27-for-51 (52.9%) from the field, 5-of-16 (31.3%) from three, and 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the free-throw line
