The UIS men's basketball team was able to pick up their first victory of the 2024-25 season on Saturday night at TRAC against Roosevelt University. The Prairie Stars start the season 1-0 while Roosevelt drops to 0-1. UIS extends its streak to 23 consecutive home-opener victories.
Head coach Matt Brock expressed his satisfaction with the season opener, saying, "It was great to get the first one under our belt. We defended at a high level for a majority of the game and made it hard for them to score. It's great to see our fans back at TRAC!"
Game Summary
- The Prairie Stars set the tone from the start, opening the game with hot shooting that propelled them to a lead of as many as 12 points within the first eight minutes
- Roosevelt countered with an 11-0 run to pull within one point, but UIS quickly responded, launching a 10-0 run to reestablish their advantage

- Tye Banks provided 14 points off the bench, Jack Weber added 13, and newcomer Nate Shockey scored 11 in his UIS debut
- Kunnert, Banks, and Braden McGlothlin grabbed 6 rebounds each, while Weber and Evan Altman both recorded 4 assists
