Dear Students, Faculty and Staff —

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brandon Schwab as the next UIS Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Dr. Schwab will serve as provost-designate until formal approval by the Board of Trustees. His first day at UIS will be July 17.

Dr. Schwab comes to UIS from Western Carolina University, where he’s served as associate provost for academic affairs and a tenured professor in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resources since 2014. As associate provost, he oversaw all aspects of faculty affairs, curriculum approvals, undergraduate research and several other areas.

Dr. Schwab is a first-generation college graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a doctorate in geological sciences from the University of Oregon. You can read more about his professional and personal background on the UIS Newsroom.

Thank you to Dr. Vickie Cook and Dr. Ty Dooley for leading this important search and to the members of the search committee for their great work. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Schwab to UIS next month!
