Dear Faculty and Staff —

I am pleased to share that Dr. Cecilia Cornell will serve as interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost, effective immediately. While the search for our permanent provost proceeds on schedule, Dr. Cornell will provide leadership over the Academic Affairs division until our selected candidate begins their appointment.

Dr. Cornell has served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Graduate Education since 2013 and is actively involved in the major projects and initiatives conducted by the Office of the Provost. She began her career in higher education in 1985 as an adjunct instructor at George Mason University and later taught history at Millsaps College and Vanderbilt University before coming to UIS in 1990 as an associate professor of history. She earned a doctorate of philosophy in history and a master’s degree in history from Vanderbilt, and her bachelor’s degree is in social science/secondary education from the Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University).

Dr. Cornell cares deeply about our university, and I look forward to working with her during her interim appointment.

Thank you,

Janet
