Dear Faculty and Staff —

I am pleased to share that Jacob K. Friefeld has been selected to serve as the Director of the Center for Lincoln Studies. He will begin his appointment Aug. 16.

He comes to UIS from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield where he served as the Illinois and Midwest studies research historian. As a historian, Jacob has made significant contributions to the field through academic books, articles and professional conference presentations. He earned a doctorate in history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

As the director of the UIS Center for Lincoln Studies, he will lead efforts to advance research, education and public understanding of Abraham Lincoln's life, legacy and historical significance.
