The Illinois Springfield men's basketball team dropped a close contest to Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night, falling 74-66 in the GLVC matchup. The Prairie Stars now stand at 10-10 overall and 5-7 in conference play, while UMSL improves to 10-9 overall and 8-4 in the GLVC.

  • UIS came out strong, hitting 80% of their shots from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, to build a commanding 20-10 lead by the under-12 media timeout. Max Kunnert led the charge with an impressive first half, scoring 19 points, including three triples. Jack Weber contributed 10 points in the paint, notching key buckets to solidify the Prairie Stars' offensive momentum.
  • Despite a strong start, UIS couldn't hold the lead as UMSL steadily closed the gap. The Tritons leveraged fast breaks and points in the paint to narrow the deficit, heading into halftime trailing UIS by just two points, 37-35. Both teams shot above 50% in the first half, though UMSL struggled from beyond the arc, going 0-of-6.
  • The second half began quietly, with both teams trading early three-pointers before UMSL took its first lead at 42-40, setting the tone for a back-and-forth battle. The Prairie Stars stayed within striking distance, keeping the deficit within four points as the game entered its final minutes.
  • A clutch three-pointer by Britton Dutton brought UIS within one point, 60-59, with just over three minutes to play. However, UMSL responded by pulling away to a 68-61 lead after a brief stalemate. UIS fought hard in the closing possessions but missed key opportunities while UMSL sealed the win at the free-throw line.
  • UIS cooled off in the second half, shooting 43.5% compared to 57.7% in the first. While the Prairie Stars out-rebounded UMSL 17-12 in the second half, they struggled in points off turnovers, trailing 12-2 in that category.
  • Max Kunnert led the Prairie Stars with 24 points and seven rebounds while shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Jack Weber added 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed three rebounds.
