The UIS men's basketball team came up short in a competitive game against William Jewell on Monday night, falling 74-67 at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Mo.
Game Summary
- The Prairie Stars jumped out to an 20-13 lead in the first ten minutes, led by Isaiah Esker, who contributed seven of those points. Nate Shockey also found his rhythm, contributing 12 first-half points, six of which came from two three-pointers
- UIS shot an impressive 61.5% from the floor in the first half, holding a 40-38 lead at the break
- For most of the game, UIS controlled the pace and held off the Cardinals, who were in close pursuit
- William Jewell grabbed the lead for the first time in over 31 minutes with 8:15 to play. The Cardinals tied the game with a layup by Jordan Jermaine, then took the lead on a layup by Jason Thirdkill Jr.
- UIS cooled off in the second half, making 46.2% of their field goal attempts and struggling from beyond the arc (1-for-7)
- The final minutes featured a tense back-and-forth, with four lead changes as both teams fought to maintain control. UIS made a late push but couldn't overcome the Cardinals' strong finish
- Nate Shockey led UIS with 16 points, adding four rebounds and four steals, contributing significantly on both ends of the floor. Jack Weber also had a solid performance, scoring 14 points while pulling down five rebounds
- Max Kunnert shot 50% from the floor and made three three-pointers to finish with 12 points. Off the bench, Khalil Ross provided a spark with 11 points
UIS will travel to St. Louis, Mo., to face the Maryville Saints at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
